Baltic gardener nominated for community impact award
Gardens by Peter Lloyd won the Business Community Impact Award by the Be Free Campaign.
Peter and his team dedicate their time to garden design and maintenance – including the peace garden on Baltic Green, which was created in 2023 as part of the city’s Eurovision programme.
“Winning the Business Community Impact Award means the world to me and everyone involved in our projects. From the Peace Garden to inclusive sensory spaces, we’ve shown how green spaces can connect, heal, and inspire. It’s a proud moment that recognises the power of community and collaboration,” he says.
The garden was designed as a peaceful space for reflection and relaxation in the area, with the Liverpool Ukrainian Society contributing to the design of the garden in the run-up to Eurovision. It features curved cobbled paths among the planting, traditional medicinal herbs, vegetable gardens and a wishing well, where the water is represented by living flowers. Two cement chess tables with seating were provided by Liverpool City Council.
Children from St Vincent de Paul Catholic Primary School created decorative ‘peace poles’ for the garden while Roots in the City planted vegetables and herbs. The garden’s development was supported by the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUVV) Liverpool branch, the Big Help Project and a community crowdfunder in the area.
The garden is the focal point for monthly maintenance and community litter picks on the first Wednesday of every month. Keep an eye on our social channels for more information on Baltic Triangle events.
