We recently interviewed Dan and Paul of the recently launched Spiel magazine. In their own words, here is their story:-
As we’re new to the publishing scene we should probably start with an introduction to let you know how Spiel came about, what we’re looking to achieve and finally, where you can pickup or download your copy. Firstly then, if you’re sitting comfortably: how Spiel came about.
Unfortunately this isn’t an exciting film noire type escapade featuring femme fatales, deception and other sorts of unscrupulous
behaviour. It is simply the by product of wanting to create a magazine, which we felt was yet to be created. Even though it’s taken a fair few months to prepare, it’s been well worth the millions of emails we’ve sent, the limited funds we’ve squandered and the sunny days we’ve spent cooped up in the kitchen. As a new magazine, our number one objective is to simply stay afloat in a saturated market place. Beyond that, we want to publish work that may otherwise remain unpublished, confined to cyberspace or a dust covered portfolio. Throughout the process of scouring the earth and the seven seas for contributors, we’ve come across hundreds of talented writers, artists, designers and photographers: it is our aim to bring them to the attention of a wider audience. A major component in our success though, is you: the reader.
Because if it isn’t picked-up or downloaded and read, we’ll flail like a stereotypical Johnny foreigner in the penalty area. If you’re lucky enough to come from Liverpool, you will find a list of fine establishments listed on the back page that will stock Spiel. For everybody else, if you
enjoyed this preview, then we’ve plans afoot to set up a mail ordering system to get Spiel to your doorstep. Finally, we would just like to say
a big, BIG thank you to everyone who has taken the time to download Issue Zero. If you haven’t already, follow us on Twitter@spiel_magazine and let us know what you think of the preview.
